Celebrating Fabric certification (DP-600)
I passed DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer) with little preparation - here is what it refreshed and what I learned.
Recently, I was a bit cocky because one of my colleagues at work accidentally signed up for the PL-600 (Power Platform expert) exam instead of DP-600 (Fabric Analytics) and passed it without preparation... well, it turns out I'm a Microsoft Fabric developer with DP-600 now by performing a similar stunt. I said to myself, Why not try when Microsoft is giving away tons of free vouchers to pass the certification and promote the platform?
It was a good refresher on a:
👉 SQL, KQL, and Power Query language structure
👉 Power BI Tenant/Capacity/Workspace configuration and RLS-Access management (and Fabric as well)
👉 Usage of Tabular Editor and DAX Studio
👉 Overall data modeling
What I've learned from it is that I was not aware of that much, as I'm an Application Developer, not a Data Engineer in the first place?
👉 What are the differences between a slowly changing dimension
👉 What are the real differences between Direct Lake and DirectQuery
👉 What are the real differences between delta and parquet formats
If something is free, don't hesitate to try - you can always learn something new!
