Microsoft Applied Skills - GitHub Copilot

Ever wanted to try @Github Copilot without paying a dime... and also earn a badge along the way? Take a look at Microsoft Applied Skills! One of the available labs, “Accelerate app development by using GitHub Copilot,” is an automatically assessed virtual lab focused on AI-assisted coding in .NET / C#. The best part? You don’t even need prior C# knowledge to get started. Think of it as a ~2-hour free, hands-on trial with a sample project where you can really explore what Copilot can do with some of the newest models, such as GPT-5. You will need to log in to the pre-provisioned GitHub account for you, and also know how to run a C# project from VS Code. If you don't have prior knowledge on how to do it, you may use internet knowledge, as Applied Skills are open-book (but using AI to assist you is prohibited and considered misconduct)! The guided tasks walk you through: 👉 Explaining existing code 👉 Writing documentation 👉 Implementing new features 👉 Creating unit tests In other words, it covers most of the core skills you’d need to build your first student-level project with AI assistance.
